Challenges on Valentine’s Day
Area floral shops said they will make deliveries despite the change in weather. “My son, he’s a truck driver trainer so I know if he gets in the van the orders are going to get there,” said Kathy Dotson, owner of Kathy’s Flowers and Gifts in Humboldt. Dotson said she has been in business for more than 20 years. She said her daughter and son take a day of vacation to help with what is one of the busiest days of the year for her business. “We’ll all pull together. I’ve got some exceptional people delivering.” Dotson said she sees a 75 percent increase in business on Valentine’s Day and said she has seen it all. “We have guys come in the next day that have forgotten about Valentines Day and we have the ‘dog house’ card.” Shoppers made last minute floral purchases in order to avoid what they call the ‘dog house.” “Let me tell you you can never go wrong with a dozen of long-stem roses for your love bug at home,” said Gary Williams, a shopper. Shopper Tony Houston said he had a strategy this year. “Six roses for six months…not married, but knowing somebody,” said Houston. Williams said it would not be a good day in his household if he were to forget Valentine’s. “If you fail to plan…you plan to fail,” said Williams.
