The IRS has sounded the alarm after possible scams have surfaced in Madison, Hardeman and McNairy Counties. Officials with the IRS in Tennessee said suspicious fliers are circulating in these areas referring to tax credits for the elderly or disabled. Also, the IRS said to make sure to choose a reputable tax preparer with good credentials. They said some bogus tax returns have been brought into the Jackson IRS office by people unaware that they have been scammed. This time of year ID thefts tend to go up, so IRS officials said to be careful who you give your personal information to.
