MS Authorities Search For Missing Plane

Authorities are searching for a small plane that may have gone down in Mississippi.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen says the plane was about 18 miles southeast of Tupelo when the pilot reported a problem Tuesday morning.

Bergen says an alert was sent to airports and authorities within a 50-mile radius of its last known location. It’s believed only the pilot was aboard the single-engine, Piper Cherokee Six.

Monroe County officials say they’re searching the woods for the plane, but overcast skies hampered efforts to search by helicopter.

Bergen says the plane was flying from Ocala, Fla., to Olive Branch, Miss. It’s registered to Buccaneer Aviation Inc., a Delaware corporation.

Bergen says she couldn’t say what kind of problem the pilot reported.
