Madison County Sheriff David Woolfork is throwing his support behind a new proposal to increase court costs by $3 for everyone convicted of a criminal charge in the state. The additional funds would be used for a program called the Statewide Automated Victim Information Service or SAVIN. It provided crime victims and other concerned citizens free and confidential notificaiton about a particular inmate’s release, transfer or escape from participating agencies. “Without this program, people would just simply not be notified, of course that’s one of the most terrifying things I think that people have is just not knowing where the suspect might be,” said Madison County Sheriff David Woolfork. SAVIN is also funded by a grant, but it does not provide enough money for the growing program. Currently, this court fee is $1. If the bill passes in Nashville it will go up to $4.
