Water Well Hits Oil Pocket
A water well was drilled months ago in Middle Tennessee and now crude oil is leaking into a nearby creek.
State environmental inspectors told the land owner, Rev. John Gouldener, the small pocket of oil will probably play out soon. While a definite cause of the spill hasn’t been determined, inspectors said it was likely that drilling the water well disturbed a small naturally occurring pocket of oil.
The oil has been seeping into Brush Creek near Fairview for more than a week. Booms have been placed to contain it. The well was sunk months before the oil began seeping, according to The Tennessean (http://bit.ly/zAdrIs ).
Gouldener is pastor of Crossroads Community Church in Nashville. He bought the property about a year ago.
