Fairfield Arraigned on Murder Charge

A man charged with beating a man to death with a hammer is being held without bond after his first court appearance, Wednesday. Reuben Fairfield, 26, is facing charges of first degree murder and tampering with evidence in the February 7 murder of Lionel Harris in Midtown Jackson. Investigators said witnessed told them Fairfield intended to confront Harris about an allegation Harris had molested a relative of Fairfield. Police said Fairfield used a hammer to hit Harris in the head six times. The hammer was recovered in an alley between Division Avenue and Wisdom Street. Police said Harris, who is originally from Arkansas had been living in Jackson with his girlfriend since 2010. Fairfield will return to court on February 23.
