Fairfield Charged in Murder

Jackson Police make the arrest of the man they said is responsible for a deadly beating in midtown Jackson exactly one week ago, Tuesday night. 7 Eyewitness News was at the Madison County Jail, Tuesday night after Jackson Police interviewed Reuben Fairfield, 26, an interview, in which they said he admitted responsibility in the February 7 murder of Lionel Harris. Investigators said they have determined that on the night of the murder, Fairfield followed Harris to a bus stop to discuss a personal matter. Though at some point, the talk turned violent as officers said Fairfield chased and beat Harris with a hammer. An autopsy determined Harris died due to multiple blows to the head. “We’re able to now put the public at ease and let them know the man that killed Lionel Harris is off the street,” said Lt. Tyreece Miller of the Jackson Police Department. “He’ll be charged with first degree murder and tampering with evidence and we have a very solid case against him.” Miller said the hammer used to kill Harris was recovered in an alley between Division Avenue and Wisdom Street. Police said Harris, who is originally from Arkansas had been living in Jackson with his girlfriend since 2010. Fairfield will make his first court appearance on the charges, Wednesday morning.
