Thieves Climb Through Wall to Break Into Business

A board marks the spot where a burglar broke into the Dollar General Store in Alamo. After entering the store, investigators said he silenced the alarm by ripping the wires out. He turned off the lights and stole money from the safe. “It’s a kind of tin. He could have used tin snips or a saw of some type it would have made a lot of noise but there was no report of any noise,” said Chief Gary Skipper of the Alamo Police Department. The tactic of cutting a hole in the back of buildings has become all to familiar for local law enforcement. Last month in Madison County, a burglar drilled a hole into a business next to the Dollar General Store on Beech Bluff Road. Three months ago a man cut a hole in the back of Tate’s Food Rite in Maury City. This could be the same man who robbed the Dollar General Store in Alamo. “If he’s the same one he’s done it before. He’s got it down to a science,” said Skipper. Chief Skipper said it is not a question if the burglar will strike again. The questions are where and when will this burglar strike. “It may be a month, it might be a couple of weeks but he will find another Dollar Store and he will cut through the wall and do the same thing,” said Skipper. This is the second time in the past few years that this Dollar General Store has been robbed. “It’s frustrating because it seems he continues to get away with it. We should think of some ways of thwarting him from doing it again and we are working on that, ” said Skipper. The suspect is described as a white man approximately 5 foot 9 to 6 feet tall between 170 and 180 pounds.
