Alamo Police are searching for a rapist they said committed a violent crime right down the road from the police station. On West Main Street a 22-year-old woman was playing with her dogs Monday afternoon. That is when police say Adonis Winston,25, approached her. “He just came up to her and started talking to her and as she started walking away he started following her and touching her,” said Assistant Chief Jim Knox of the Alamo Police Department. According to police, the victim was pushed through her front door, held down and raped. The woman has never had a relationship with the suspect. She knew him from Crockett County High School. “He made threats and comments that he had a knife which led her to believe that he did have a knife and that he was gonna do serious bodily injury or kill her.” said Knox. Police said Winston left on foot. Warrants alleging him of aggravated rape, sexual battery and aggravated burglary have already been issued. “(It’s a) very rare occurrence for here in the city,” said Knox. “We don’t have that many violent cases here. Usually a pretty peaceful little area.” Adonis Winston, also known as A.J. Winston, has a West Grand Street address in Jackson. Officers said he also has contacts in Crockett and Shelby Counties. “You don’t know what his intents are if he will try it again or what’s going on in his mind. This is considered a violent crime and I believe he needs to be apprehended as soon as possible,” Knox said.
