Boyfriend’s Death, Brother’s Arrest

The girlfriend of the man police said was beaten to death last Tuesday spoke to 7 Eyewitness News for the first time. “It said ‘breaking news’?… a man found dead’? That’s when I discovered it was my boyfriend, ” said Shaywatha Fairfield, 25, of Jackson. Police have charged her brother Reuben Fairfield, 26, of Jackson with first degree murder. “I wanted to know what happened and I wanted answers,” said Shaywatha Fairfield. She said Harris and her brother had their differences, but nothing which would point to this. “I wasn’t going to say that I was shocked, but I didn’t want to believe that my own brother…(that) it would get to that point,” she said. Authorities said Fairfield’s motive for allegedly killing Harris was he believed Harris had molested or abused his sister’s younger daughter. Investigators said the accusation is unfounded. Shaywatha Fairfield said it never happened. “Yes, Yes. They told me it did not happen…’Why I am I asking these questions to them.’ I was making them uncomfortable asking them questions like that,” said Fairfield. She said she may never know why her brother was murdered and said forgiving him may be impossible. “We all have actions and choices and he made the wrong decision,” she said.
