Man Arrested for Statutory Rape of 16-Year Old Girl
Henry County officials said a man has been charged with statutory rape of a 16-year old girl. They said what is more disturbing is they believe the girl’s father knew about the inappropriate relationship. “We believe the father of the victim was actually trying to extort Mr. Bratton for a $100,000 and also he had prior knowledge of what might occur when he sent his daughter to Mr. Bratton’s house,” said Sheriff Monte Belew of Henry County. Authorities have charged Tim Bratton, 48, of Paris with statutory rape by an authority figure. Authorities said the father works out of town and allowed his daughter to live with Bratton for a time. Although investigators believe the father had knowledge of the relationship, when an inappropriate encounter happened last week between his daughter and Bratton, officials said the father decided to cash in on it. “Basically he (the father) was forthcoming about it and did not deny the allegations that have been brought toward him as far as the extortion part. The child abuse and neglect I’m sure he’s going to deny and has remained silent on that part,” said Sheriff Belew. He said the crime was reported by the victim who is now in the custody of Child Services. Both Bratton and the victim’s father are free on bond. They will both return to court later this month.
