High school teams from across West Tennessee competed in District II Mock Trial Tournament Saturday. The Jackson-Madison County Young Lawyers Association sponsored the event at the criminal justice complex. At the mock trial students act as attorneys and witnesses in a hypothetical legal scenario. They are then judged by local judges and attorneys. The 26th District Judge James Butler said, “It gives them a leg up on other people who start law school without having this experience.” The winner of the tournament will represent West Tennessee at the state mock trial tournament in Nashville next month.
