Police Say Club Owners Are Responsible for Safety

After Sunday morning’s massive shoot out, many people are questioning the efficiency of security at Club Karma. Witnesses 7 Eyewitness News spoke with say security guards patted down some people as they entered the club. However, some people went through without being checked. The club also had two off-duty police officers at the club that night but they could only patrol the outside of the building. Officers said the safety of the people inside the building is the responsibility of the club owner. “It’s something that the business owner needs to be conscious of because if the security is lacking to the point where it is a danger to the patrons, also staff and all, they could be opening themselves up for liability issues,” said Investigator Abraham Jones of the Jackson Police Department. Investigator Jones adds the department has a free program in place where officers will come out to your home or business and evaluate the security of your property. However, the owner must first request the evaluation.
