This weekend’s shooting at Karma Ultra Lounge has been heard around the nation. Many felt this may give outsiders a bad impression of downtown Jackson. If you type “Jackson, Tenn” into Google New, more than 500 articles from all over the country pop up about the devastating shooting at Club Karma downtown. City leaders and residents alike are concerned this is painting the wrong picture. Downtown Development executive director Katie Pace told 7 Eyewitness News they have worked hard to make downtown a welcoming place for families and businesses; she does not want this shooting to change anything. “My first thought is this has happened inside a business. It’s not indicative of all of downtown. It’s an isolated incident for downtown. I hope people don’t take this and perceive it to be it to be a big downtown issue and it truly is a community issue,” said Pace. Pace adds that downtown Jackson is still among the safer areas of Jackson and the shooting does not represent the norm for the area.
