Tattoo Parlor Rules May Change for a City
The ink could dry March 8 at a city council meeting allowing an amendment so Tattoo’s by Rose can open less than 1,000 feet from Cool Springs Baptist Church. “We are not open on Sundays we are at church too,” said Rose Streat Last month the city council voted to approve the tattoo parlor. A unanimous vote next week is needed to approve the amendment. “We are looking at the codes all the time this is something we regularly look at and sometimes make observations whether it needs to be changed,” said Brent Beshires, a Henderson Building and zoning official. It remains to be seen if two tattoo parlors located only 100 yards away from each other can exist in the city of Henderson. “I don’t see why not. There are two restaurants close,” said Streat. “I know allot of local people do have tattoos but I think it’s strange to see that much competition in a small town like this,” said Henderson resident Brynt Cashion. A tattoo shop across the street from the church opened before the 2004 Ordinance and was grand fathered in. “I think there is enough here to sustain both,” said Pam Dowdy, the daughter of Rose Streat. City officials say there has been no opposition to the new tattoo business. “In Louisiana I tattooed members of the sheriff’s department. I even tattooed an FBI agent,” said Streat.
