Jackson‘s Gang Prevention Task Force met to finalize phase one of its plan to address gang activity among the city‘s young people, Thursday. More than two dozen city leaders gathered and voted to send their plan forward. The plan includes targeting three specific areas: Lincoln Courts and Hays Avenue, neighborhoods around Hollywood Drive and the East Chester Street area. Planners want to focus programs for specific age groups and find ways for them to stay active in after school programs or jobs. Vicki Lake said, “They see the gang activity as a lucrative way of getting money through illegal activities. This will afford them the opportunity to not only expand their education, get experience but get some money in their pocket as well. Recommendations from the task force are expected to be heard by the city council at their April meeting.
