Lexington city leaders are starting a new effort to help send more of their residents to college, and they want their “green” citizens to help. Their Project Success program began in 2009 and awarded its first round of eight scholarships to their citizens last year. However, in order to keep on giving, they need more help. Starting this week they are sending out recycling bags with fliers attached. On the fliers, people can sign up for a utility round-up program. Their utility bills will be rounded-up to the nearest dollar and those extra cents will go to Project Success. “It helps educate the citizenry of Henderson County so that industry, when they come here looking for employees we will have an educated population and it will help recruit industry into this area,” said Lexington Alderman John Cassleberry. Recipients of the scholarship will get $500 a year to use at either Jackson State Community College or Tennessee Technology Center.
