Police Chief Arrested for DUI
Authorities said Grand Junction Police Chief Pat Ryan was arrested Thursday for driving under the influence. “He was driving our police car,” said Mayor Curtis Lane of Grand Junction. Mayor Lane said Chief Ryan was driving an unmarked police unit when he was arrested after leaving Horseshoe Casino in Tunica, Mississippi. Tunica officials said they observed Chief Ryan leaving the casino and pulled him over after they noticed he was driving erratically. “He should not have been in Tunica, less known drinking and driving,” said Amanda Ayers, a resident of Grand Junction. Mayor Lane said the chief had called in sick before his trip to Tunica. “He called me the first of last week and stated that he was in the care of a doctor,” said Mayor Lane. He said the chief should not have taken the vehicle outside city limits. “Yes, it is against policy because in order to go outside of our jurisdiction, such as in another state, I have to approve it.” Residents of the community said they are shocked by the news. “Everyday citizens get tickets all day everyday and arrested for it, so he needs to get what he deserves,” said Ayers. Mayor Lane said Chief Ryan has been suspended without pay pending further investigation. He remains free on bond awaiting his court date.
