For the first time, Wednesday 7 Eyewitness News heard first-hand from, the heads of both Jackson hospitals after Tuesday’s agreement that ended a years-long battle over insurance exclusivity. In the agreement, signed Tuesday in Nashville, Regional Hospital dropped its push to repeal an exemption on anti-trust legislation. Regional had argued Jackson-Madison County General Hospital had a stronghold on insurance coverage, by demanding network providers work exclusively with them. General is no dropping that stipulation for all new health care contracts. “Our team, our employees, our staff here at the hospital, we’re certainly geared toward providing the best possible care we can provide, meeting the needs of our community and hopefully that will include expansion and growth going forward,” said Steve Grubbs, CEO of Regional Hospital. ” There is a great deal of uncertainty in the health care environment for all hospitals in this country and we need to be focused on the patient that we care for and the physicians who practice here at our hospital so that’s our number one goal, every day,” said Bobby Arnold, CEO of Jackson-Madison County General Hospital The agreement is not retroactive and will only apply to new health care coverage.
