Arts in the Alley on March 15

Area residents are encouraged to wear green to kick of the 2012 Arts in Alley season with a St. Patrick‘s Day celebration on Thursday, March 15, at 6 p.m. Hosted by the Henderson Arts Commission, the showcase of area talent will begin at 6 p.m. downtown — in the alley off Main Street beside Frix-Jennings Clinic. Featured performers, Dirt Pilgrims, describe themselves as a quirky, off-beat folk band. Band members are Bob Raines, James Mayo, David Mayo, John Koons and Victor Garcia. At each Arts in the Alley, vendors sell work that includes items such as sewn crafts, paintings, wreaths, wood cuttings, altered art crafts, handmade soaps and photography. Confirmed vendors include: Tracey Snow of LillyKates with jewelry; Bethany Welborn with cards, journals and paper crafts; LaVon’s Timeless Treasures with unique decorating items; Beth Naylor with fiber crafts (dolls, baby items, etc.); Butterfly Vintage with up-cycled vintage accessories and hand-painted decor items; Hannah Ratliff of Hannah’s Heart and Home with handmade accessories and home decor; Patsy Myers with paintings; and Allan Franks with wood carvings. Booth spaces are $15 for non-members and $10 for Henderson Arts Commission members. Membership is $25 annually. The requirement for a having a booth is that the vendor is selling something handmade. Celebrity grillers will join the Arts in the Alley line-up this year. For March Chester County High School Football Coach Michael Hodum and his staff will grill hamburgers and hot dogs for brown bag specials. The meal includes two hot dogs or a hamburger, chips, drink and dessert for $5. Pre-sale meals are guaranteed a dessert; they may be reserved with forms at many downtown businesses or by commenting on this event page on Facebook. The HAC brown bag special helps offset costs of each Arts in the Alley. The Henderson Arts Commission exists to recognize, educate, enrich and entertain through the arts in Henderson, Chester County and the surrounding area. Arts in the Alley events are planned for third Thursdays throughout the spring, summer and fall.
