Students Learn by Dissecting Squid
Students at Jackson Preparatory School got some hands-on learning this week by dissecting a rather unusual animal…. Squids. Yes, squids were the topic of discussion for the week. This was the first time the class worked with an invertebrate. Instructors said the hands-on experience is the most beneficial way for the students to learn. “I think the hands-on dissection is better than virtual, because, as far as like, with the squid is morphological view versus its functional view can be very confusing,” said Sidney Mayo, a biology teacher. And it’s really a lot easier to be able to hold up, you know, the object itself and compare that.” Around 12 twelve students participated in the experiment.
