Residents Get Rid Of Hazardous Wastes
The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation’s mobile household hazardous waste collection service came from Nashville Saturday to help Jackson residents get rid of dangerous chemicals. The mobile household travels across Tennessee to help people dispose of hazardous chemicals in environmentally friendly ways at no cost. Dozens of residents dropped off chemicals at the Jackson Fair Grounds Park, including cleaning fluids, pesticides, thermometers and thermostats. Mark Savage of Clean Harbors said, “If they are handled in the correct manner, nothing is too harmful. But if you get a lot of chemicals, you could end up with adverse reactions that could poison animals, poison anybody that ingested them.” Since the program started, it has collected more than twenty million pounds of material.
