The man believed to have initiated the deadly shoot out inside Club Karma last month appeared in court, Monday morning. Travis Steed, 30, was officially charged with two counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm as a convicted felon. On February 26, investigators said Steed pulled out a gun in the crowded club, prompting two others to fire. In all, 20 people were injured, one of whom died. Police said they are still waiting for evidence to determine who is responsible for the murder of Lecarlos Todd, 19. Steed is being held in lieu of $500,000 bond. Records showed he was paroled from state prison in June of last year, after being convicted in 2006 of possessing cocaine and a weapons charge of reckless endangerment. On December 30 of last year, Steed was arrested on a felony drug count and three misdemeanors, charges that could have prompted his parole officer to revoke his parole. However, Steed was allowed to post a $10,000 bond on December 31 and remained free man until he was picked up by Jackson Police last Thursday when he was released from a Memphis hospital. A spokesperson with the state board of Probation and Parole said they were looking into why Steed’s parole was not revoked in December, but also mentioned that it was a holiday weekend. His parole officer has since revoked his parole as of last Wednesday, which means Steed can not be released from jail.
