One of the most common everyday crimes police and businesses face is shoplifitng. In an effort to combat these types of crime committed by all ages and economic classes, law enforcement and the business operators met Wednesday for a J-Alert meeting. J-Alert is an effort organized by the Jackson Police Department to help identify and catch shoplifters and allow stores to share information about trends and habits of shoplifting groups and particular shoplifters. During the meeting, both shared information about thefts and vandalism and reviewed photos and surveillance video of suspected shoplifters in hopes of identifying them. “We just collect that information, compare it to others to see what is going on in other parts of the city and what items are being hit. You know what to watch for and who to watch for,” said Investigator Ashley McCullar of the Jackson Police Department. “They go out here and sit in these stores and watch customers come in and out, they may recognize somebody from another store or something like that.” Police said if you and your business would like to get involved in the J-Alert program, contact the Jackson Police Department at (731) 425-8400.
