Bank Foreclosing On Animal Sanctuary; Animals Need Adopting

Savannah’s K-9 Sanctuary owner has given everything she has to the dogs she takes in at her rescue, but now it looks as though that may not be enough. Just last week, Sally Burnham filed for Chapter 13 Bankruptcy. “I found out very unusually that my property was in the paper 2 weeks ago – for sale on the courthouse steps,” said Burnham. But she’s not only afraid of losing her home, she’s afraid of losing nearly 70 dogs to which she provides food, shelter, and a second chance at life. “The problem is, I’ve got no place to put these dogs,” said Burnham. They all were strays, surrendered, or rescued. Now, they line the inside and outside of the retired Navy vet’s house. “Every dog, dog on the lawn has a name. And I know every one of them,” said Burnham. “And I know their story.” Without adoption, their stories may end with the foreclosure of her home, which goes to sale on Monday. “If the house sells, and I have to vacate the property – every one of these dogs either has to be euthanized, or the sheriff will come out and shoot them,” said Burnham. “I’ve had a lot of these dogs since they were babies. I can’t see putting them down. They’re loving dogs – they just need homes.” And that’s something Burnham is willing to do without. “I can live in my car. It doesn’t matter to me. These dogs can’t live in my car,” said Burnham. “As humans, we will adjust. It’s the dogs I’m worried about. And that’s the bottom line. I am worried about every one of them on the yard.” Burnham says she has a maximum of two weeks to find other non-kill shelters and individuals to adopt the dogs, most of which are spayed, neutered, and up to date on shots. She has waved the adoption fees in hopes of finding them all loving homes. For more information on how to help, click on the “Seen On 7” link.
