Southport Dr. Home Destroyed by Fire

An overnight fire in north Jackson has destroyed a home. Firefighters were called to the home around 4:30, Friday morning. The owner of the home reported waking up and seeing fire in the garage and stairwell. Crews spent a little more than four hours putting out the fire. The home was considered a total loss. Two people were in the home at the time of the fire, but were able to get out of the house. A couple of pets, however were reportedly killed in the blaze. Fire officials are still investigating the fire, but believe a lightening strike may have been the cause of the blaze.
