State Issues Charter School Ruling
The state has determined that a proposed charter school in Jackson would not negatively impact the Jackson-Madison County School District’s finances enough to deny the application. The ruling, which was a part of a letter released today by the Tennessee Treasury Department, means that Connections Preparatory Academy can now appeal the local school board’s denial to the Tennessee Board of Education. In November and December of 2011, the Jackson-Madison County School Board denied the charter school’s application. During the board’s November 2011 meeting, Superintendent Buddy White indicated that the establishment of the charter school would have a negative financial impact on the district. Connections Preparatory Academy’s Board of Directors plans to meet in the next few days to determine their next step. The have five days to request an appeal. Superintendent Buddy White was unable to comment on the state’s ruling.
