Students Commemorate 100th Anniversary of the Titanic
Students at Milan Middle School gathered to commemorate the 100th anniversary of The Titanic disaster in a special way. “An Evening on the Titanic” was held Thursday night by gifted students in the 2nd through 8th grades who have been studying the history of the vessel’s ill-fated maiden voyage. Students portray passengers and crew members from the voyage. Students also had displays set up in a museum-like setting for other students and parents to view. The goal of the event was to remind attendees of the events and the people who were part of the Titanic’s voyage a hundred years ago. “They take it on for themselves and it’s not just reading a page this is something that is meant to them. They know the characters, they know what happened to them they can tell you what happened and if they survived or didn’t,” said Becky Reeves, Enrichment coordinator at Milan Middle School. School leaders said similar programs and events are presented every year.
