WWII Vets Honored by Marine Corps League
A local veterans organization gathered in west Jackson Thursday night to honor two of its members in a very special way. Members of the Marine Corps League Detachment 735 honored two World War II veterans by presenting them with special plaques for their service during the war. One special thing about the plaques…they contained actual sand from the island of Iwo Jima. Recipients of the award said they are truly honored. “I’m really proud is the main thing,” said Carl F. Jones, Junior, one of the honorees. “It’s such a good organization and I just feel honored that they would honor me in this way.” The Marine Corps League is a national organization for Marin veterans. Its members include Marines who have served in every conflict, including World War II and the Iraq War.
