TN School Board Drops Prayer

The Lenoir City School Board has discontinued prayer at board meetings and football games.

School Superintendent Wayne Miller told The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/GIvKQr ) long-term decisions will be made after the school system’s attorney advises the board. The newspaper reported attorney Chuck Cagle didn’t return its phone calls.

The board has received letters from Americans United, the American Civil Liberties Union and the Appignani Humanist Legal Center. The groups claim prayer at school functions is a constitutional violation.

Loudon County school board chairman Scott Newman says the county district is watching that Lenoir City schools do.
