Liberty H.S. Encourages Students to Read to be Fit
The teachers at Liberty Tech High School stayed late for a very special faculty meeting, Wednesday. Ron Price, who is the football coach at the high school in New Albany, Mississippi, was the guest speaker. Last December, his wife, who was also a high school teacher, was murdered in their home. A young man, only 20 years old is charged in the crime. Price’s message is about the important influence teachers have and how each one of them has the power to help change the course of student’s lives. Price is the brother-in-law of Liberty Tech’s Instructional Coach, Sherrie Pawley. “They have a very impactful role in these students’ lives and we wanted to bring Ron in today so that our teachers could kind of get a tune up and remember that they have such a significant role,” said Pawley. “The goal is, you know, if you can reach even one child, then all the effort has been worth it and so making a difference in one child’s life could mean, could mean a huge difference down the road you know you never know what the future holds.” Liberty Tech is holding its 2nd annual “Read to Be Fit” initiative, in which the entire school is reading from Michael Oher’s “Beat the Odds”, from homelessness to “The Blind Side” and beyond. This year’s focus is on fitness of the mind.
