The Jackson man accused of sparking a deadly shoot out inside Club Karma last month appeared before a judge Thursday morning. A preliminary hearing was supposed to be held for Travis Steed, 30, but despite telling a judge he was going to hire an attorney at his previous appearance, he told the court he did not have the money to do so. Still Steed said he does not need a public defender. “Well, my people said that they were going to do it for me,” said Steed. According to police, Steed has family in the Jackson area and is also a documented member of the Crips Gang. Still, Judge Blake Anderson assigned his case to the public defender’s office and reset his hearing for two weeks. Steed is charged with two counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm as a convicted felon in connection with the February 26 club shooting in which 19 others were wounded.
