Obion County Constables to Lose Law Enforcement Power
After much discussion and controversy constables in Obion County now have lost their law enforcement powers. The county commission has voted to take away their powers and reduce the number of officers in the county from nine to seven, which is one per commission district. Constables will still be able to serve civil warrants as they have always done, but the action leaves some dissatisfied. “We had two county commissioners that voted against it, the reaction from the constables, they do not like it ’cause your taking some powers away,” said Obion County Mayor Benny McGuire. A majority of commissioner believed there were liability issues with constables powers as they were.
