The talk of Bruceton is the condition of Police Chief Ronnie Stewart. Step inside the Country Corner Restaurant and you will hear plenty respect for the chief. Dianna Rogers lives in Bruceton, “He’s been a good member of the community. Bless his heart, there is a reason everyone calls him ‘Smiley.” “I hate that it happened to him. He’s a nice guy. Seems like bad things happen to nice people,” said Darrie Travis. Bruceton City Hall has received 100 calls a day for the past two days asking about the Chief. Sunday, Stewart was attacked by two pit bulls at his daughter’s house in Camden. He has had two surgeries and at least two more are planned. With Physical therapy we are assuming he is going to probably be out for a few months, ” said Town Recorder Kimberly Owens . To help pay for some of the medical costs for Chief Stewart a benefit will be held at the town fire hall Friday, April 6 from 11a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be hot dogs sold and a silent auction. “His family is having to come out of their pocket for stays and we are trying to help the family out as much as we can,” said Owens. Chief Stewart has insurance. Bruceton officials said the money from the benefit will help pay for deductibles. “I think everybody here thinks a lot of him. He goes above and beyond, people call and he is right there. Some people say Johnny on the Spot..That is what I would say,” said Bruceton resident Gwen Hodge.
