Social Work Month Celebrated at Union
Local social service agencies and Union University’s school of Social Work celebrated Social Work Awareness Day. There were various social work agencies who set up displays in the Carl Grant Events Center, showing what they offer to those in the profession, students and patients. Professional social workers are employed in more than 50 fields of practice. “We hope that they have an understanding of what social workers do and ideas of where they can go for jobs for internships. So, it is just basic education for all the students and community members that come in”, Ginny Schwindt, MSA Field Director for Union University’s School of Social Work. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, social work is one of the fastest growing professions in the country, due to an increased need for health and aging services, as well as child, family and school-based support.
