A 10-year prison sentence was handed down, Thursday, for the Jackson man convicted of an on-campus robbery of a Lane College student. Marquon Green, 22, was convicted by a jury of aggravated robbery in Madison County Circuit Court, Division I, on January 31. On February 5, 2011, investigators determined Green was armed with a handgun when he approached a female student and demanded her purse. He took her purse and ran away. Two days later, Jackson police say Green got into the car of a woman who was sitting in the parking lot of St. Paul C.M.E. Church, which sit on the outskirts of the Lane campus. Investigators say he pulled out a handgun, demanded her purse then forced her to drive to Madison Place Apartments on Rhone Street, where he raped and robbed her. Green is set to go on trial in that case on May 1.
