New U.S. Marshal Confirmed

Dennis J. Erby has been confirmed as U.S. marshal for the northern half of Mississippi.

The U.S. Senate confirmed Erby on Thursday, according to a spokesman for Republican Sen. Thad Cochran. The White House announced Erby’s nomination last May.

Erby spent most of his law enforcement career with the Mississippi Highway Patrol, beginning as a patrol officer in 1978. He retired as a lieutenant.

Most recently, he was a supplemental compliance monitor for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.

Erby served in the Mississippi National Guard from 1974 to 1980. He has a bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State University and is a graduate of the FBI Academy.
