McKenzie Considers New “Code Red” Program
One West Tennessee community wants its weather alerts to go further than the the typical tornado sirens. McKenzie leaders are considering implementing an emergency alert program called “Code Red.” It operates through the National Weather Service and can send out instant alerts during severe weather. Community members that are signed up would receive phone calls letting them know a storm is heading their way. The program would also give city leaders the ability to send out phone alerts for any notifications in the city. “This is something as emergency services we’ve been looking for for years. To be able to make contact with the community. Not only for emergency services but for the city to be able to make contact with citizens in our town,” Mayor Holland told 7 Eyewitness News said the city council would have to see if they can fit “Code Red” into the city’s next fiscal budget year before it can be approved.
