The West Tennessee Women’s Center at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital presented “What Every Parent Should Know About Bullying” to students at Nova Elementary School, Thursday. Students learned about issues concerning bullying and how to determine if a child is being bullied or the aggressor. A recent poll shows that 40 percent of all sixth graders in the United States have been bullied in some way. “Today is about leadership,” said host Jim Williams. “We are going to challenge the third and fourth graders to be a leader and a leader is someone who used to be a bystander but now steps up and tells the bully to stop.” Williams said children learn very early on that it is “more fun” to be the bully because they have the power and control. He said that is why it is so important to teacher children when they are young about the effects of their actions.
