Deputy Suspended Amid Excessive Force Investigation

An investigation has begun to determine if a deputy used excessive force on an inmate. According to Madison County Sheriff David Woolfork, Benjamin E. Long, 24, is suspended with pay pending the outcome of the investigation. The investigation centers on whether Long violated departmental policy while assisting in the booking of an inmate charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct. The Madison County Sheriff‘s Office has requested the attorney general‘s office ask the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation for assistance in the investigation of possible excessive force on the inmate. Benjamin Long has been employed as a correctional officer since September 2009.
