Jackson are emergency responders got training, Thursday for dealing with not just the physical problems, but mental side effects after a disaster. Officials from the Red Cross met at Union University and instructed first responders on how to recognize people who may need help after a disaster and gave them proper ways to assist them. Red Cross officials said being able to recognize those who may be in need of help is the first step. “Well, you know what to be looking for when a person comes into a shelter, ” said Bubba Cobb, director of emergency services, for the Dyersburg Red Cross. “You can see that they need some kind of help and refer them on to the health care professionals, you don’t need them to be in that shelter and have problems and let those problems just fester, they don’t get better.” Those taking the training said it will help them better serve those suffering during a disaster.
