Deputies: Employee Stole From Vending Machines At High School

The Decatur County Sheriff’s Department has arrested a Riverside High School worker accused of stealing from the school for months. Despite the issues, Riverside High School has been bustling as usual with the school year coming to a close. “We have prom, graduation, and academic awards. We’ll celebrate our academic achievement. We do have a lot of exciting things going on,” said Riverside High School Principal Hugh Smith. But there is one thing that is not so exciting. More than $4,200 dollars is missing from Riverside High School’s 2011/2012 school year budget. “He admitted to taking the money so at that point we turned it over to the sheriffs department,” said Smith. The Decatur County Sheriff’s Department has arrested and charged Timothy Edward Wilson, 45, with theft. He worked as a custodian for Riverside. School leaders said the 15-year employee confessed to them during his weekly routine of collecting vending machine money, he pocketed it. Riverside uses that money for school projects. “We would use to pay for office supplies, paper, printing products, things like graduation programs and cleaning supplies,” said Smith. School officials said they have only checked for missing monies dating to last August, but plan to look back a few more years as well.
