A Carroll County mother is outraged after she said she found used cigarettes inside the packaging of one of her daughter’s new toys. Lisa Carroll said she purchased a doll on Friday at the Dollar General in Trezevant. When her daughter got home to open the doll, they discovered the legs had been removed and there were two cigarette butts inside the doll. Carroll believes they were put there during the manufacturing process, since the doll was made in China and the cigarettes have the name of a Chinese tobacco brand on them. “I believe somebody who put the doll together was smoking and instead of putting them out or throwing them away like they should have they stuffed them down inside the doll,” said Carroll. She also told 7 Eyewitness News she is considering filing a lawsuit for the fear other dolls like this may be out there. Dollar General representatives released a statement about the issue: “The safety of our customers is a top priority for Dollar General. Our toys are rigorously and thoroughly tested to meet a stringent set of standards, ensuring the safety and health of our customers. We have not received any other complaints about this product, and we are not aware of any injuries as a result of this startling claim. Although Dollar General has not had the opportunity to inspect the product, both we and our supplier are committed to a thorough investigation, which is already underway. A representative is expected to reach Ms. Carroll this afternoon (Monday) to get more information.”
