Stigall Students Take to the Skies on Kite Day

For some area students, Wednesday was a good day to take to the skies and have a little fun in the sun while learning. Nearly 200 students at Stigall Primary School in Humboldt participated in their first ever Kite Day. Preschoolers, kindergartners and first graders all spent the sunny day constructing and flying kites. Teachers said flying kites tied into their lessons about shapes and weather. Many of the students and teachers told 7 Eyewitness News they had never flown a kite before, but it was a fun way to end the school year. “A lot of times children learn by sight, by putting their hands on different things, rather than just sitting in the classroom,” said Stigall Primary School reading intervention specialist, Diane Glenn. “So we decided just to bring them outside and let them have a little fun while learning, also.” Teachers said they hope to make Stigall’s Kite Day an annual spring- time event.
