MS Community Passes Noise Ordinance

The Ocean Springs Board of Aldermen has passed a noise ordinance. Tuesday night’s vote came after another round of public comment, most of it against some aspect of the new law. Even the board was split on aspects of it and the vote was five-to-two. But the city has been looking at a way to regulate loud, outdoor music for more than a year in order to help downtown bars coexist in peace with nearby neighborhoods. The ordinance limits outdoor and amplified music to certain hours for private, commercial property as well as on public property and parks. The cutoff is eleven p.m. weekdays and midnight on Friday and Saturday.
