Five Teachers Disciplined
State education officials have flagged the licenses of five Signal Mountain Middle-High School staffers who chaperoned a class trip to the Bahamas. The action by the Tennessee Board of Education came after Hamilton County schools officials suspended the staffers for five days, saying they drank alcohol on a senior class trip. If an administrative law judge upholds the flagging of the teaching licenses, they wouldn’t be allowed to work in any Tennessee school for a year. Sixteen students were disciplined for drinking on the trip. There was no indication the staff members drank with any seniors. Hamilton County School Board Chairman Mike Evatt said the teachers have thirty days to appeal the discipline, which the local board was advised of Tuesday.
