Neighbors Fearful After Bowers Murder

Those who lived near Donald Bowers are fearful for the future of their neighborhood. Investigators said Bowers’ body was found in his west Jackson home after being burglarized. Police and residents raved about how safe the neighborhood was, but now do not know what to think. 7 Eyewitness News requested the number of burglaries from the Jackson Police Department in Bowers’ neighborhood in the last year. Only three were reported on Fairmeadow Cove, two of those burglaries were at Bowers’ home. Geraldine Ewing has lived in this neighborhood for 25 years, and have never felt unsafe, until now. “I just didn’t know what to do. I didn’t know what to say after I had seen the ambulance and the police going over there,” said Ewing. Many who live in the neighborhood said this was the first they have heard of any crime coming from their quiet neighborhood. “I’m nervous and unsure of what’s going on and scared of what might happen in the future,” said Brandon Jones, who lives nearby. Residents said they used to have a neighborhood watch program that fell through about five years ago, but now they will definitely get it started back up again. Even the officer who patrols the area said he was shocked to hear of a homicide on Fairmeadow Cove. “The neighborhood is pretty safe. I advise the residents to put up more lighting, keep their lights on, and lock their doors to the area safer for each one of the residents in the neighborhood,” said Officer Brad York of the Jackson Police Dept. Officer York said they will increase patrols in that area.
