A Golden Gloves boxer was found dead inside his West Jackson home late Tuesday night. Police said it is the fifth homicide in the city this year. Police and Neighbors said this type of crime is unusual in West Jackson. Family members are seeking justice, they said Donald Bowers was a hero. Strong, Brave and Fearless. Those are the words that come to mind when family and friends remember legendary boxer Donald Bowers, 52. “I called him the pinnacle and that’s like the one that reigns to the supreme… the highest supreme,” said Angela Henly, Bowers’ sister. ” He exercised everyday, he was a good strong guy, he was a fighter,” said Richmond Bowers, Jr., Bowers’ brother. . ” There was things that we found at the scene and the condition that his body was found in, that led us to believe it was a homicide,”said Lt. Tyreece Miller, of the Jackson Police Dept. Investigators said there were no signs of a forced entry…which means Bowers could have known his attacker. “I just cant understand who would want to hurt him who would want to kill him why, why, why,” said Henly. A question police said, they have also asked. ” Anyone that can tell us who was with Donald in the last 24 to 48 hours we would like to talk to those people,” said Lt. Miller. “Any information that you have in this case, please let the police know. Please, please, please let them know,” said Henly. Police have not said how Bowers was killed. Though officers might know Thursday after an autopsy by the medical examiner in Nashville. Investigators are asking if you saw Donald Bowers in the last day or two or if you know who is responsible for his murder to call Jackson Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit at (731) 425-8400 or Crime Stoppers at (731) 424-8477.
