Former Jackson Police Officer Sentenced for Stealing from Victim

The former Jackson Police officer who pleaded guilty earlier this year to stat and federal charges of stealing from a shooting and robbery victim was sentenced Friday in federal court. Marvent Brooks was ordered to serve one year and 10 months in federal prison for violating the victim’s civil rights and for have an unregistered, short barrel shotgun. Investigators said Brooks stole more than 1,200 dollars from Malcolm Wortham in August 2010, as he and another officer investigated Wortham’s shooting and robbery. David Dreblow has also pleaded guilty to federal charges and is awaiting sentencing.
