Residents Fighting to Keep South Jackson Kroger Open
After Kroger announced they planned to close their south Jackson store, residents are coming together in an effort to try and change that. On Thursday, dozens of Bemis residents were signing a petition to urging company officials to keep the south Jackson Kroger open. Denise Lewis started the petition and said so far the list has more than 900 signatures on it, plus around 600 more on an online petition. Although the area has other grocery stores, several people say the Kroger is the most convenient with the best selection. Kroger officials tell us they will take the petition into consideration, however, the store needs major improvements that the company said it can not afford to make. “‘Jamaica-Me-Tan’s’ got a petition, you’re more than welcome to go there, ‘Maximum’ does, ‘Tail Wagger’z’, ‘Lewis Bail Bond’ does. We’ve got people carrying it around door-to-door. People really want this,” said Lewis. Lewis said she plans to present the petition to Kroger officials on Monday. She hopes to have at least 3,000 signatures by then.
